Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Prepare monthly sales/use tax returns for submittal to state and local jurisdictions;
  • Prepare wire and check requests for payment of taxes;
  • Prepare and post tax payment journal entries to correct general ledger accounts;
  • Reconcile sales and use tax related accounts;
  • Register entities in new taxing jurisdictions;
  • Maintain and update compliance due date report for SOX compliance purposes;
  • Review purchase invoices to determine correct sales tax is applied;
  • Review contracts to determine applicable taxability of labor/materials purchased;
  • Provide training to office and field personnel to insure proper sales/use tax accruals;
  • Respond to sales/use tax inquiries from internal and external customers;
  • Update OneSource tax software and/or other taxability matrices;
  • Monitor jurisdiction tax information for changes in tax laws and tax rates;
  • Research tax issues and work on special projects as needed.

Required education or minimum level:

  • Bachelors Degree in accounting or related field;
  • CPA or CMI candidate preferred.
  • 2 - 4 years’ experience in multi-state sales and use tax matters, preferably in the same or similar industry;
  • Experience performing tax research using tax services such as CCH, RIA, BNA, etc.;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required because of interactions both inside and outside of the tax department; and
  • Proficiency in analyzing and reconciling accounts and preparing journal entries.
Software Knowledge:
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel is required;
  • Knowledge of SAP preferred;
  • Knowledge of a sales tax solution (like Tax Ware, Vertex, Avalara, or OneSource) preferred. 
 Physical requirements:
  • Lifting up to 30 lbs occasionally.
  • Driving, walking, standing, frequently.
