Summary:

The Senior Project Engineer leads and executes process engineering activities on mid- and large-capital projects within midstream facilities, including cryogenic gas processing plants, fractionation, LPG chilling, dehydration, liquid handling, and gas and liquid treating. This role provides technical leadership throughout the project lifecycle, supporting and partnering with Project Managers while serving as the primary process engineering authority. The Senior Project Engineer is responsible for upfront engineering, detailed design, process safety leadership, commissioning, and troubleshooting, and routinely serves as Project Manager or Lead Engineer on small to mid-sized and growth capital projects. Strong planning, design leadership, analytical problem-solving, sound engineering judgment, and effective communication skills are essential for success in this role.
 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Process Project Engineering
    • Lead and execute upfront process engineering for midstream facilities, including amine treaters, condensate stabilizers, glycol dehydration units, cryogenic gas processing plants, NGL Fractionation, and NGL export terminals.
    • Develop, review, and maintain detailed process simulations using Aspen, HYSYS, and ProMax to support design, optimization, and operational decision-making.
    • Lead development and approval of process design specifications, data sheets, and technical requirements for all major equipment and packages.
    • Serve as the primary process engineering interface for Project Managers, supporting design packages, drawing reviews, and technical approvals throughout the project lifecycle.
    • Lead commissioning, startup, performance testing, and troubleshooting efforts, coordinating closely with construction, operations, and vendors to achieve safe and successful facility startup.
    • Lead and facilitate Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs), Layers of Protection Analyses (LOPAs), and other formal process safety reviews.
    • Ensure compliance with OSHA PSM requirements, including Process Safety Information development, resolution of PHA action items, Cause & Effect documentation, and management of process safety deliverables.
    • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior and associate engineers, reviewing work products and ensuring technical quality and consistency.
    • Develop and approve engineering solutions in compliance with applicable design codes, industry standards, company specifications, safety requirements, and recognized engineering best practices.
    • Independently interpret and apply applicable engineering codes, regulations, and standards, exercising sound engineering judgment and accountability for technical decisions.
    • Continuously expand and deepen technical expertise in midstream process engineering technologies and emerging industry practices. 
  • Project Management
    • Serve as Project Manager or Lead Project Engineer for small to mid-sized plant projects, responsible for the full project lifecycle, including scope definition, design development, cost estimating, procurement, construction execution, commissioning, and project closeout.
    • Lead execution of growth capital projects, including scope development, front-end engineering, cost estimate preparation and submittals, material procurement, construction oversight, commissioning, and project completion.
    • Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering teams, construction contractors, vendors, and operations stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, and within budget.
    • Provide technical and execution leadership to identify, manage, and mitigate project risks, changes, and technical challenges.

Requirements:

Education and/or Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job duty satisfactorily. The requirements for this position are listed below:

·     Bachelor’s in Engineering Discipline, Chemical or Mechanical Engineer preferred

·     6 – 10 plus years of experience in combined engineering and/or project management

·     Previous experience in the processing industry

·     Professional Engineer License viewed as a plus

·     Microsoft Products

·     Engineering Programs – Promax, HYSYS, CAD

  

Working Conditions:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

  • Usually, normal office working conditions.
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time due to prolonged periods of sitting or standing.
  • Overnight travel up to 80% of the time may be required.
  • Occasional visits to industrial/manufacturing settings, which may include exposure to various materials and chemicals, as well as extreme temperature conditions and loud machinery, and require appropriate personal protective equipment.

 

Required experience is commensurate with the selected job level:

  • The Engineer level requires a Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline and 3-6 years of relevant job related experience
  • The Senior Engineer level requires a Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline and 6-10 years of relevant job related experience
  • The Staff Engineer level requires Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline and 10+ years of relevant job related experience
  • The Principal  Engineer level requires Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline and 12+ years of relevant job related experience with a strong preference for a PE license
