Key Business Objectives:

This is a Leadership role within USA Compression that reports to and assists the Regional Director of Operations.  The position is responsible for the execution of USA fleet maintenance philosophies, standards, and plans as well as customer satisfaction.  Direct reports will range from 5-8 Area Service Managers and up to 300,000 HP of natural gas compression equipment.    The Assistant Director of Operations will be accountable for improving the performance, productivity, efficiency and profitability through effective processes and strategies.  A strong financial acumen with the ability to manage the P&L and accurately prepare and execute an expense and capital budget are critical.   All people managers are expected to lead by example and actively drive the four company initiatives:

People – (recruitment, retention, development)

Culture – (team work, work life balance, accountability, engaged employees)

Equipment (execution of USA Compression maintenance plan)

Service (lead with service, make it a true differentiator in the market)

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for safety adherence and ensuring all service standards are met.
  • Responsible for hiring, coaching, motivating, performance management, pay increases, disciplinary actions and dismissals following the company policy and procedures.
  • Engage in the business, take ownership for the function, and work cross-functionally with other regional operations teams to set standards, drive consistency and determine best practices to be communicated across the company.
  • Monitor, manage and improve the efficiency of support services and facilitate the coordination and communication between support functions.
  • Responsible for hiring, retention, development and training of the operations team.
  • Review financial statements and data.  Utilize financial data to improve profitability.
  • Prepare and control operation budgets.
  • Facilitate inventory and plan effective strategies for the financial well being of the company.
  • Manage quality and employee productivity.
  • Manage maintenance of equipment and machinery, and provide technical support where needed.
  • Liaison with top management and assist in the development of strategic plans for operational activity.
  • Any other duties or responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Full-time salary position.

Skills/Capabilities and Education:

  • College degree preferred (business, industrial technology, engineering) or equivalent related work experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in the natural gas compression industry.
  • Extensive knowledge of natural gas compression equipment and processes.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Must be able to exercise discretion and independent judgment.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications.
  • Critical thinking and problem solving skills.
  • Strong communication skills written and verbal.
  • Experience in team related organizations and adept at conflict management.
  • Experience in organizational effectiveness and operations management.
  • Strong business acumen and utilization and management of human capital.
  • Ability to understand written and verbal communication from the company and supervisor including training, procedures, instructions, etc.
  • Applicant must have the ability to legally work in the U.S.

 

Working Conditions:

  • Travel is required and is expected to be approximately 25% of the time worked.
  • Periodic lifting requirements in excess of 50 lbs.
  • Ability to stand and walk on uneven and varied terrain, climb ladders and stairs, stoop, squat, kneel, crouch and crawl depending on the task requirements.  
  • Exposure to extremes in temperature and weather conditions depending upon assigned location.
  • Exposure to high noise levels (in excess of 85dBA), as well as exposure to potentially hazardous chemicals and materials.
  • The position requires ability to read and interpret data as well as having the capacity to professionally and effectively communicate (verbally and written) with both company and outside personnel.
  • Employee will be a member of a team that is geographically dispersed.
  • Working conditions in natural gas compression vary from one job site to another.  Some job sites are indoors in compressor stations while other sites are outside, exposed to a variety of weather conditions.  The work environment may be in hazardous locations.  There is a strong emphasis on safety while working with heavy equipment and machinery.
