This role monitors the success of our safety programs in our Central Region, which includes operations in Colorado, Oklahoma, Texas and Louisiana.

Key Business Objectives:

The Safety Manager leads a team of geographically dispersed field safety coordinators throughout the region.  The Safety Manager’s focus is to drive improved safety results and complete implementation of core health and safety programs, policies, and processes.  This hands-on field general role reports directly to the Vice President of Regional Operations, and is a full time, salaried position.  The Safety Manager’s duties include, but are not limited to:

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Partner with regional operations leadership teams and utilize field safety coordinators to improve safety results through hands-on employee safety training, coaching, developing relationships, and reinforcing our safety expectations.
  • Continuously monitor regional safety KPI’s (lagging and leading), evaluate the effectiveness of safety efforts and initiatives, and develop and implement changes required for improvement and attainment of annual safety goals.
  • Develop and enhance the assigned regional safety coordinator’s safety skills and competencies through coaching, mentoring and feedback.
  • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal health and safety regulations, as well as USAC and customer safety requirements.
  • Support USAC’s driver improvement and telematics program and ensure compliance with applicable DOT regulations.
  • Influence and coach employees and leadership teams to enhance our safety culture.  Our HSE Vision remains Zero Incidents in All We Do.
  • Review and assist with developing improvements to current field safety policies, procedures, and training modules.
  • Lead HSE compliance audits and field visits.  Prepare audit reports and recommendations for corrective actions and track corrective actions through closure.
  • Support the Vice President of Safety with incident investigations, after-action reviews, and identification of best-in-class programs and initiatives.
  • Any other duties or responsibilities as assigned by the Vice President of Regional Operations.

Skills / Capabilities and Education

  • Minimum of five years’ experience in a direct HSE leadership role with a four-year degree preferred but not required.
  • Experience in the Oil and Gas industry required with a strong focus on operational support and employee development.
  • Thorough understanding of fundamental health and safety management concepts, practices, and procedures as well as state and federal regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Ability to lead with influence and persuasiveness and motivate teams to drive continuous safety improvement.
  • Proactive leadership and team building skills with the ability to work effectively throughout the organization.
  • Ability to multi-task on various key projects.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to exercise discretion and independent judgement.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, teamwork and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills (including public speaking).

Working Conditions:

  • The employee spends the majority of time in various field operating environments which may include significant walking, driving, sitting or standing.
  • The employee must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • The position requires ability to read and interpret data as well as having the capacity to professionally and effectively communicate (verbally and written) with both company and outside personnel.
  • Travel is required and is expected to be approximately 60% of the time worked.
  • The employee will be a member of a team that is geographically dispersed.
  • Working conditions in natural gas compression vary from one job site to another.  Some job sites are indoors in compressor stations while other sites are outside, exposed to a variety of weather conditions.  The work environment may be in hazardous locations.  There is a strong emphasis on safety while working with heavy equipment and machinery.
