Sr. Applications Engineer

Key Business Objectives:
The Sr. Applications Engineer is responsible for working with account managers to promptly size, select, and quote compression equipment for USA Compression’s customer base. This individual is a committed team player who is detail-oriented, efficient, innovative, professional, and personable. The position requires the ability and desire to fully utilize the technological resources provided to perform all tasks effectively. This position supports the Operations Team to enable them to better serve our customers. With minimal supervision, this position will maintain customer relationships both internally and externally. All USA Compression employees are responsible for maintaining a safe and professional work environment.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Size gas compression equipment efficiently utilizing OEM performance software including Ariel, GE, Arrow, LeRoi, Gardner Denver, Caterpillar, Waukesha and Cummins product line.
Advise Make Ready and Engineering management on forecasted sales activity.
Analyze customer operating condition requirements, evaluate idle fleet units for unit selection, and provide recommendations for sales opportunities in Salesforce to Make Ready and Engineering.
Review selected unit design and provide recommended package design modifications to Make Ready and Engineering.
Prepare quotes, including engine pedigrees for account managers to present to customers.
In collaboration with other departments, create and manage unit design specifications.
Assist Make Ready with recommendations for developing unit make ready costs.
Assist Project Engineering with recommendations for developing unit reconfiguration costs.
Provide unit performance recommendations and assistance to Operations for active compression equipment.
Coordinate with both internal resources (account managers, environmental teams, make ready teams), as well as external resources (customers, vendors, etc.) to encourage a collaborative team culture.
Perform occasional shop, field, yard and site visits to gather details and information related to compression equipment.
Provide leadership and guidance to junior applications engineers, as required.
Any and all other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Sr. Manager of Fleet Engineering.
Skills/Capabilities and Education:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited university.
Minimum 8-10 years’ work experience in the oil and gas industry, preferably direct experience in natural gas compression.
Understanding of industry codes and standards (ASME, API, ISO, EPA, etc.)
Strong computer skills in using the Microsoft Office Suite, Salesforce, SAP, and OEM sizing programs.
Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Customer service oriented.
Ability to understand written and verbal communication from the company and supervisor including training, procedures, instructions, etc.
Full time Exempt position.
Working Conditions
Ability to perform in a high stress environment.
The employee spends most of the time sitting or standing in a comfortable position with ample opportunity to move about.
The employee must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
Ability to read and interpret data as well as having the capacity to professionally and effectively communicate (verbally and written) with both company and outside personnel.
Exposure to noise levels in excess of 85dBA, potentially hazardous chemicals and materials, and extreme weather conditions.
Travel is required and is expected to be approximately 10% of the time worked.
Working conditions in natural gas compression vary from one job site to another. Some job sites are indoors in compressor stations while other sites are outside, exposed to a variety of weather conditions. The work environment may be in hazardous locations.
There is a strong emphasis on safety while working with heavy equipment and machinery.
