Summary:

The Associate Specialist Freight Optimization is responsible for analyzing, designing, and implementing strategies to reduce truck transportation costs, improve service levels, and maximize network efficiency across inbound and outbound freight operations. By combining carrier expertise, data analysis, and cross-functional coordination, this role delivers measurable improvements in truck freight spend, routing effectiveness, carrier utilization, and transportation mode optimization.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Review and analyze truck freight expenditure variances within payment systems, investigate and resolve invoicing discrepancies and disputes
  • Serve as liaison with carriers to address invoice concerns, payment issues, and overall issue resolution
  • Maintain and update pricing records within internal systems, ensuring accuracy and consistency of freight pricing data
  • Support the creation and ongoing maintenance of carrier accounts, sales transactions, and purchase transactions
  • Provide analytical support for freight and accessorial costs during carrier negotiation and sourcing activities
  • Partner with Transportation, Scheduling, Trading, and Transmix teams to align freight strategies with business objectives
  • Monitor market trends, capacity conditions, fuel costs, and regulatory changes impacting truck transportation
  • Lead and support continuous improvement initiatives across transportation and logistics processes

Requirements:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements for this position are listed below:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business/Supply Chain or related field.
  • 0-2 years of experience in related field.
  • The schedule for this position may be outside of regular hours to ensure adequate and consistent coverage of operations. 
  • Self-starter, motivated and proactive in setting direction and making recommendations.
  • Analytical, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to prioritize work requirements within tight, concurrent deadlines.
  • Competence in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and Word).
  • Highly resilient with results driven attitude.

 

Required experience is commensurate with the selected job level:

  • Associate Specialist requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent experience and 0-2 years of relevant job experience.
  • Specialist level requires a bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience and 2-5 years of relevant job related experience
  • Senior Specialist level requires a bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience and 5-8 years of relevant job related experience

 

Working Conditions:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

  • Usually, normal office working conditions.
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time due to prolonged periods of sitting or standing.
