Summary
The Director of Technical Services provides strategic and technical leadership across operations, ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient pipeline and compressor station facility performance. This role oversees engineering, technical services and operational technology functions, driving consistency, compliance, and continuous improvement across the asset base. The director partners closely with Operations, Engineering, Integrity, Commercial, and IT to deliver high‑quality technical solutions that support throughput, reliability, and regulatory expectations.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Governance
Establish and maintain technical standards, engineering practices, and operational procedures for pipelines and compressor station facilities.
- Provide technical guidance to operations leadership on asset performance, equipment reliability, and system optimization.
- Lead root‑cause analyses and technical investigations for operational incidents or equipment failures.
Operational Support & Optimization
- Direct technical support teams responsible for troubleshooting, field support, and equipment performance across the asset footprint.
- Partner with Operations to identify and implement improvements that enhance throughput, reduce downtime, and optimize energy usage.
- Oversee the evaluation and deployment of new technologies, automation, and digital tools that improve operational visibility and reliability.
Project & Engineering Oversight
- Lead or support capital and major maintenance projects, ensuring technical quality, cost control, and alignment with operational needs.
- Review engineering designs, specifications, and vendor proposals to ensure compliance with company standards and regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate with Integrity Management on risk assessments, remediation plans, and long‑term asset strategies.
Regulatory Compliance
- Oversee audits, inspections, and reporting related to PHMSA, FERC, state agencies, and internal compliance programs.
- Maintain strong documentation and governance practices across technical disciplines.
Team Leadership & Development
- Lead a multidisciplinary technical services team (engineering, pipeline operations, mechanical, electrical and controls specialists).
- Develop talent through coaching, training, and succession planning.
- Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Cross‑Functional Collaboration
- Serve as a key technical advisor to Operations, Commercial, Engineering, and senior leadership.
- Translate operational needs into technical requirements and ensure alignment across departments.
- Represent the company in industry groups, technical committees, and vendor engagements.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
- Advanced degree preferred.
- 12+ years of experience in pipeline, or industrial operations with increasing technical responsibility.
- Strong background in engineering and technical operations.
- Proven leadership experience managing multidisciplinary technical teams.
- Deep understanding of operational workflows and regulatory frameworks (PHMSA, API, AGA).
- Experience with SCADA/OT systems, automation, and digital operations tools.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to influence at all levels of the organization.
Preferred
- Experience leading technical services or engineering functions in a transmission operating environment.
- Familiarity with capital project management, reliability engineering, and asset performance programs.
- Exposure to digital transformation initiatives, data analytics, or advanced operational technologies.
