Summary:

 

Provides overall guidance for area work crews/management and other technical entities for the installation, operation, evaluation, design and repair of natural gas compressor station / pipeline related control systems / equipment.  Provides the technical support to field personnel responsible for maintenance of location control systems and related equipment, including qualification training and evaluation. 

 

 

Essential duties and responsibilities:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job duties satisfactorily. The requirements for this position are listed below:


  • Investigates and analyzes the effectiveness of current control and data acquisition system platforms, and provides recommendations to improve performance.  Provides technical input to the development of planning and design of new or remedial projects/installations.  Leads the development and maintenance of multi-year facility integrity plans for the division.  Provides scope and cost estimates to the budget process and supports meeting targets.  Assists in planning, material requisitions, installation, documentation and management of new projects and work orders.

  • Ensures all installations are within Company and Industry standards, and comply with governmental regulations.  Monitors required records to assure they are kept and maintained in accordance with Company and regulatory requirements.  Conducts facility/systems audits and inspections, reviews records, and reports findings.  Conducts special projects or surveys and makes related recommendations.

  • Establishes and maintains effective work relationships within the department, the company and internal customers, and promotes uniformity, continuity, and customer service.  Maintains professional competence, knowledge and skills necessary to effectively complete responsibilities; enhances job knowledge and abilities by taking personal responsibility for professional development and training. Maintains sensitive and confidential information regarding company information.

  • Supports the company’s employee policies and procedures, including workplace safety rules.  Performs responsibilities as directed within determined time frames and with a high degree of accuracy. 

  • Possesses a solid working knowledge of internal combustion engine/compressor units, ancillary station equipment, and pipeline pressure and flow control. 

  • Possesses a strong working knowledge of the NEC and electrical safety requirements, and Operations and Maintenance procedures related to plant controls systems including installation, testing, calibration, and maintenance of controls related equipment (such as Siemens PLCs, PID control loops, 120/240 volt single phase, Delta & Y 3-phase systems through 480 volts and 24VDC and 120VAC control circuits); testing, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical and mechanical equipment in a gas compressor station; programming using Siemens 505 Workshop and/or Tisoft, LogoSoft and Lookout operator interface software; maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing motor starters, commercial power and incoming power disconnects, indoor and outdoor switchgear, motors, power transformers, VFDs and UPSs; planning work, preparing budget-related information and maintaining spare parts inventory. 

Special Characteristics / Job Requirements: 
  • Must have good driving record
  • Employees are required to live within a reasonable distance of their reporting location.

  • Position is subject to applicable U. S. Department of Transportation Drug & Alcohol regulations.

  • Natural gas gathering and processing is an “around the clock” operation and incumbents are required to be reasonably available to respond to emergency and other operational needs whenever they occur. 

Preferred Skills:
  •  Minimum of two years of college, completion of an accredited technical trade school, or three to four years’ experience in controls, instrumentation, etc.
  • Job duties require solid analytical and problem solving skills to review data from multiple sources, identify trends and root causes. 

  • Able to adapt to changing priorities and manage multiple tasks and projects concurrently. 

  • Candidate must be able to work without direct supervision and have excellent organizational skills.

  • Possess human relations skills to effectively operate in a work crew-oriented environment with a willingness to support work crew objectives. 

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to enable incumbent to work closely with field work crews and Area Management; and coordinate work with other appropriate technical resources. 

  • Strong computer literacy and proficiency. 

Required education:

  • High school diploma or GED

Required experience is commensurate with the selected job level:


  • Level C requires a minimum of 0 - 2 years of relevant experience in a midstream operations role or equivalent work experience
  • Level B requires a minimum of 2 – 4 years of relevant experience in a midstream operations role or equivalent work experience
  • Level a requires a minimum of 4+ years of relevant experience in a midstream operations role or equivalent work experience


Working Conditions:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

  • Lifting up to 50 lbs occasionally
  • Driving, walking, standing frequently
  • Exposure to adverse weather, cramped conditions and some heavy lifting
    Visits to industrial/manufacturing settings, which may include exposure to various materials and chemicals, as well as extreme temperature conditions and loud machinery, and require appropriate personal protective equipment
  • Occasional overnight travel may be required
