The Pipeline Tech  repairs and maintains all pipe lines, appurtenances and performs work incidental to the daily operation and maintenance of pump stations/ delivery facilities. Responsible for right-of-maintenance including line-marking. Participates in construction projects as needed. This position also assists Technicians. Must be willing to respond to call-outs and travel.



Essential duties and responsibilities: 
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job duties satisfactorily. The requirements for this position are listed below:

  • Performs work safely and adheres to all company rules, guidelines and policies.   
  • Must have the ability to identify, use, and maintain various tools and equipment.  Must be proficient in the use of specialized tools and equipment (i.e., tapping machines, grinders, hoists etc.)
  • Capable of operating small portable pumps, generators, and other small equipment.
  •  Will maintain tools and equipment in a safe condition maintain good housekeeping habits.
  •  Must be familiar with terminology typical of pipeline operations.
  •  Will operate a tractor for various work-related activities.
  • Safely perform hot line taps.
  • Properly install mud packs to isolate vapors in pipeline prior to welding operations. 
  • Responsible for the receipt and delivery of scrapers in accordance with proper procedures and maintain the  records of the same.
  • Have the ability to identify and use various fittings, pipes, gaskets and other materials
  •  Ability to differentiate and recognize pipe according to size, type (wrapped vs. bare, beveled vs. screwed).  
  • Knowledge of how valves operate (opens and closes).  
  • Must be able to read and use maps, diagrams, and have an understanding of station drawings used in daily pipeline operations.
  • Will assist in the construction, repair, and maintenance of the pipeline
  • Assists welders by filing bevels clean, lining up pipe, lining up clamps and placing skids.
  •  Assists in rigging, winching, securing a load, load/unload all types of materials and other equipment.
  •  Assists the equipment operator, using shovel and/or probe bar to locate pipelines for safe excavation
  •  Ability to coat and wrap pipe. 
  •  Prepare and maintain reports, records, and other paperwork required by company procedures and DOT record keeping.
  • Assist in repair and clean up of crude oil spills. Must be capable of responding to an emergency including communication outages as well as spills or other abnormal operational disruptions.
  •  Locate and mark pipelines in response to state "One-Call" notifications, patrol plane reports, and other encroachment notification.
  •  Use a probe bar and/or an electronic line locator to properly identify line location.
  • Effectively interface with third parties who perform construction or farming activities near pipeline facilities. Ultimate goal must be to avoid personal injury and/or damage to property.

Required education:

  • High school diploma or GED

Required experience is commensurate with the selected job level:

  • Level C requires a minimum of 0 - 2 years of relevant experience in a midstream operations role or equivalent work experience
  • Level B requires a minimum of 2 – 4 years of relevant experience in a midstream operations role or equivalent work experience
  • Level a requires a minimum of 4+ years of relevant experience in a midstream operations role or equivalent work experience

Working Conditions:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

  • Lifting up to 50 lbs occasionally
  • Driving, walking, standing frequently
  • Exposure to adverse weather, cramped conditions and some heavy lifting
    Visits to industrial/manufacturing settings, which may include exposure to various materials and chemicals, as well as extreme temperature conditions and loud machinery, and require appropriate personal protective equipment
  • Occasional overnight travel may be required
  • Must live within 45 minutes of the plant location
