Public Relations Specialist
Education and/or Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements for this position are listed below:
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, public affairs, political science or a related field or equivalent work experience
- 2 - 5 years of experience with state or local government relations, government, or economic development
- Maintains a sense of urgency, individual responsibility, and possesses the ability to effectively work under pressure and with changing priorities.
- Must be capable of managing multiple issues at once.
- Possesses a high level of initiative and is able to work effectively with minimum supervision.
- Excellent judgement in high profile, high pressure environments
- Experience working in team environments
- Excellent listening, written, and oral communications skills
- Ability to travel regionally and work remotely (up to 50%)
Preferred Qualifications:
Education and/or Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Track record of proven work with community groups, local governments, and nonprofits
- Experience working at local levels on public affairs, grassroots, and/or charitable campaigns
- Experience in the manufacturing, energy and/or utilities fields
- Experience in new and traditional media
Working Conditions:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
- Normal office working conditions with approximately 50% of the time in the field.
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time due to prolonged periods of sitting or standing.
- Overnight travel may be required.
- Position is based in industrial settings which may include hazardous materials and chemicals, as well as extreme temperature conditions and loud machinery, and require appropriate personal protective equipment.
