Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job duty satisfactorily. The essential job duties for this position are listed below:

  • Troubleshoot station and sub-station electrical systems.
  • Perform testing on transformers, breakers, switchgears, circuit breakers, metering, cables, and other high voltage yard equipment.
  • Perform infrared scans of high voltage equipment.
  • Perform routine inspection as per Preventive Maintenance standards.
  • Maintain records for each facility.
  • Able to interpret critical measurements and make a recommendation to supervision.
  • High Voltage maintenance and repair. Inspect electrical systems to help ensure safety of personnel and equipment and the reliability of application and equipment. Installation and maintenance of plant, pipeline and compressor components including pneumatic, electrical and software systems associated with each. Will be able to troubleshoot electrical systems, using test equipment and safe work habits to find root issues. Diagnose and correct problems associated with PLC's and electrical systems and controls. Must be familiar with the necessary tools and methods to work safely with the given electrical systems, to include isolation tools and insulation tools.
  • Scheduling and performing periodic inspections and maintenance on high voltage equipment and owned substations. Scheduling and managing multiple contract crews and enforce the quality assurance and safety goals.  Direct the work and provide technical assistance to other Energy Transfer employees and contracted craft employees.
  • Ability to read and utilize drawings and schematics, including electrical, pneumatic, and P&ID drawings. Interpret substation structural and system drawings and able to verify phasing and accuracy of three-line diagrams.
  • Understand the National Electrical Code and OSHA 1910 as it relates to controls systems.
  • Maintain compliance records and documentation to meet state and federal requirements as well as company procedures. Follow, implement, and write procedures to help ensure reliability and safety.
  • Responsible for the assignment, supervision, and coordination of electrical maintenance activities of equipment integral to 1000V and above systems. Responsible for the safety, efficient scheduling, and work quality of the contract crews and company employees. Oversees jobs to ensure all crews are working safely while performing new construction, maintenance or repair, testing, adjusting, and troubleshooting work of substation equipment/systems and 1000V+ motor control centers.
  • Work in close proximity to energized substation equipment and be familiar with the hazards involved.
  • Good verbal communication skills. Communicate issues and planning with sufficient knowledge to other employees, management, and contractors. Performs risk assessment and mitigation of electrical hazards while working with other employees in other trades to meet their safety requirements as well. Participate in issuing requests for proposals, contractor selection and negotiation of maintenance contract tasks.

Requirements:

Education and/or Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job duty satisfactorily. The requirements for this position are listed below:

  • High School diploma or Technical Degree equivalent and 6+ years in the industry

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Five (5) years plus, in a high voltage position.
  • Must have two (2) years’ experience with voltages over 1000V and the typical equipment involved (ie: circuit breakers, protective relays, air switches, grounding, transformers, reactors, capacitor banks, etc.).
  • Thorough knowledge of the operation and safety aspects of the MCC/switchgear.
  • Knowledge of electric motors with ratings up to 9000 HP.
  • Understanding of electrical and instrumentation drawings and schematics.

Software Knowledge:

  • Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook

 

Working Conditions:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

 

  • Lifting up to 50 lbs. frequently.
  • Driving, walking, standing frequently.
  • Exposure to adverse weather, cramped conditions and some heavy lifting, visits to industrial/manufacturing settings, which may include exposure to various materials and chemicals, as well as extreme temperature conditions and loud machinery, and require appropriate personal protective equipment.
  • Working extended hours as required in emergencies, on projects or outages. 

 

Required experience is commensurate with the selected job level: 

  • The Specialist/Analyst level requires a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience and 2-5 years of relevant job related experience
  • The Senior Specialist/Analyst level requires a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience and 5-8 years of relevant job related experience
  • The Lead Specialist/Analyst level requires a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience and 8+ years of relevant job related experience
