Position Summary
Under limited supervision, the Senior Buyer / Procurement Specialist is responsible for sourcing, requisitioning, and purchasing materials used in production, fabrication, and field operations at USA Compression. This role supports MRO (Maintenance, Repair, and Operations) procurement, supplier relationship management, and cost optimization initiatives to ensure operational efficiency and continuity.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
Ensure accuracy and completeness of purchase orders, including coding, supplier details, pricing, quantities, shipping instructions, and technical specifications.
Review, validate, and approve system-generated planned orders and purchase requisitions.
Source and procure materials, equipment, and services to support manufacturing, fabrication, and field service operations.
Develop, maintain, and strategically expand a qualified vendor base aligned with company operational standards.
Prepare and issue complex bid packages (RFPs/RFQs), analyze supplier responses, and award contracts based on commercial and technical evaluations.
Obtain and manage quotes for new and existing items, including custom-machined components; maintain accurate records within ERP/MRP systems and electronic filing systems.
Coordinate technical documentation (e.g., drawings, specifications) with suppliers to ensure compliance with engineering and operational requirements.
Review supplier acknowledgements, resolve discrepancies, and communicate impacts to project timelines and cost structures to internal stakeholders.
Act as a key liaison between internal departments and suppliers to resolve procurement issues and ensure continuity of supply.
Monitor supplier performance, pricing trends, and lead times; drive continuous improvement initiatives.
Track major components by project/job and maintain visibility into delivery schedules.
Serve as a point of contact for system updates related to supplier pricing and procurement data.
- Support and mentor junior Buyers, providing guidance on procurement processes and best practices.
Position Qualifications
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey complex information both verbally and in writing.
Demonstrated expertise in preparing, analyzing, and evaluating technical specifications, bids, and contracts.
Proven ability to maintain a high level of professionalism and customer service in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
Advanced organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, including evaluating alternative solutions and making sound business decisions.
Ability to interpret technical documentation, including engineering drawings and specifications.
Excellent written communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear, concise, and accurate documentation.
Skills & Abilities
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Engineering, or related field or equivalent experience.
Minimum of 5+ years of relevant procurement or supply chain experience, preferably within oil & gas, energy services, or industrial manufacturing environments.
Experience with ERP/MRP systems required.
Industry experience in compression services or rotating equipment strongly preferred.
