Summary:

As a Sr Engineer you will be trained in Energy Transfer Company’s Safety, Operation and Maintenance procedures related to plant and pipeline facilities. The incumbent will provide engineering expertise to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation of natural gas pipelines and compressor stations. The duties would include:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Provide engineering design and project management for assigned projects in accordance with Company specifications, industry standards and Federal regulations.
  • Review pipeline integrity dig packages and identify recommended repair scopes to comply with Company specifications and Federal regulations.
  • Prepare project cost estimates, scopes of work, and scheduling.
  • Provide direction and monitor Company and third-party engineering and CAD design personnel.
  • Prepare material requisitions and specifications for the purchase of material for construction projects.
  • Perform technical review of vendor material quotations, engineering drawings and manufacturing specifications and procedures.
  • Review preliminary drawings for neatness, completeness, and accuracy, and approve the drawings for bid and construction.
  • Prepare weekly reports on project activity, track project cost and schedule and reports results to Management.
  • Review as-built drawings for compliance with Company specifications, Industry standards, and Federal regulations.
  • Assist Field Operations and team personnel with engineering problems, code interpretation and questions.       
  • Develop Construction Bid packages and write contracts for winning bidder.
  • Provides financial oversight, and revises projects to reflect changes in cost forecast exceeding approved tolerances.
  • Coordinates with Specialists, Operations (Team, Managers, and Directors), Gas Control, Integrity, Planning, Marketing and customers to reduce or eliminate any outages to customers.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of applicable Federal Regulations, Company Engineering Standards and Standard Operating Procedures and other pipeline industry standards and specifications.
  • Provide technical support for right of way permitting and acquisition including the preparation and approval of road and railroad crossing permit drawings and the preparation approval of property plats used to acquire the necessary right of way and temporary construction workspace for assigned projects.
  • Analyzes outside design drawings for encroachments to Company Facilities.  Works to eliminate conflicts and provides initial scope for required relocations of Company facilities.

Education and/or Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job duty satisfactorily. The requirements for this position are listed below:  

  • Knowledge of 49 CFR 192, ASME B31.8, API, and AGA.  Industry experience in engineering, design and operation of natural gas transmission systems.
  • Experience in pipeline assessment, fitness for service evaluation, risk management, and code compliance
  • Experience in natural gas facility design, (meter station, regulator station, compressor station, processing plants).
  • Knowledge in vendor sizing and selection programs for control valves, regulators, and relief valves, pipeline flow calculations, road crossing stress calculations, area of reinforcement calculations, and other engineering related programs preferred.
  • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and MS Projects.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.  Excellent analytical and organizational skills
  • Self-starter with the ability to work with minimal supervision.  Able to handle multiple projects simultaneously in an environment of changing priorities, reporting, and regulatory requirements.  
  • Must be able to manage time, conflicting and changing priorities, work in a team environment and assist team members as required. 
  • Deals frequently with a wide range of contacts including technical, operations, risk management, contractors, vendors, attorneys, and various levels of management.  

 

Required experience is commensurate with the selected job level:

  • The Sr. Engineer level requires a bachelor’s degree in engineering and 6-10 years of relevant job-related experience.
  • The Staff Engineer level requires a bachelor’s degree in engineering and 10+ years of relevant job-related experience.

 

Working Conditions:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Usually, normal office working conditions. 

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time due to prolonged periods of sitting or standing.
  • Must be able to travel approximately 25% of the time. 
  • Occasional visits to industrial/manufacturing settings, which may include exposure to various materials and chemicals, as well as extreme temperature conditions and loud machinery, and require appropriate personal protective equipment.
  • Must reside within 45 minutes of the reporting work location.
  • Must have valid driver’s license and safe driving record.
  • Paid relocation negotiable.
