Summary:  Works with field operating groups to ensure that technical operations & maintenance for all liquid and gas facilities complies with corporate procedures, regulatory requirements and industry best practices while maintaining a level of reliability that ensures the company’s on-going success.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • The Sr. Engineer reports to the Director Asset Management & Reliability. The incumbent possess expert knowledge of the design, operations, and maintenance of all gas and liquids facilities.  Comprehensive mechanical knowledge is required for all turbomachinery equipment and ancillary systems.  Provides direction and technical leadership for maintenance standards, policies and procedures for all rotating equipment assets.
  • Consults to field operating personnel on a daily basis to provide technical expertise and assistance to Managers, Supervisors, Directors, Engineers, and Technicians as required to assure the safe and reliable operation of pipeline facilities.
  • Identifies potential problems and recommends revisions necessary to ensure that company procedures comply with all state and federal regulations, and prudent and industry "best practices."  Implement procedures, train personnel on the procedures, and assure compliance with these procedures through reports, summaries, and periodic inspections. 
  • Designs and develops technical and safety training materials and establishes standards for qualification for exempt and non-exempt personnel. 
  • Reviews design of facilities and equipment, resolving complex operating problems involving multiple components and personnel, including cross-discipline issues, economic considerations, compliance with regulations, safety aspects (both public and employee), and personnel requirements.  Evaluate how these procedures impact field manpower, material, equipment, and expenses in order to meet minimum requirements and the desired level of reliability and performance.
  • Reviews the capital budget for the Operations and Engineering Department.  This involves: reviewing the dollar amounts for reasonableness; analyzing the feasibility of the proposed solution and suggesting innovative alternatives, if necessary; and ensuring the equipment specified best fulfils the intended purpose.  Recommends approval of capital work orders.  Also, establishes short and long term capital programs for upgrades of existing facilities or introduction of new technologies.
  • Works with Division Technical Staff(s) and other departments such as Marketing, Gas Control, Safety, Underground Storage, Planning, Communications, Government Affairs, Engineering Design and Construction, and Materials Management.  In particular:
  • Engineering Design and Construction - Consults with Design and Construction personnel and provides reviews and/or revisions to capital budget projects.  Includes approval of items such as controls equipment, valves, valve operators, software, buildings, unit and compressor station control system logic, ESD systems, programmable logic controllers, and UPS systems.
  • Marketing - Provides scope and cost life cycle information for major project evaluations.
  • Materials Management - Advises and makes recommendations for approved vendors, approved machine shops, inventory min/max levels and surplus materials dispositions.
  • Government Affairs - Advises in areas related to environmental laws, state laws, pipeline operation and safety laws, concerning the impact of promulgated rules and regulations on the operation of the pipeline system.
  • Keeps abreast of state-of-the-art equipment and innovations being developed for the industry to improve performance, reliability, and safety.  Recommends implementation when appropriate. 
  • Performs special projects as requested by management.


Requirements:  Education and/or Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: 

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements for this position are listed below:

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering related field 

  • 6 - 10 years years of experience associated with rotating equipment turbomachinery.

  • The position requires a candidate with excellent oral and written communication skills. 

  •  A highly developed ability with PC’s and office computer software is required.  Must be a self-starter and self-motivator with the ability to perform effectively with minimal supervision. 

  • Should demonstrate a positive and professional work ethic and work well individually and/or on a team. 

Working Conditions: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. 

1. Usually, normal office working conditions.
2. Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time due to prolonged periods of sitting or standing. 
3. Overnight travel required.
4. Occasional visits to industrial/manufacturing settings which may include hazardous materials and chemicals, as well as extreme temperature conditions and loud machinery, and require appropriate personal protective equipment.
