Energy Transfer Partners is a master limited partnership that owns and operates one of the largest and most diversified portfolios of energy assets in the United States. In total, the Company owns and operates approximately 86,000 miles of natural gas, crude oil, refined products, and natural gas liquids pipelines, terminals, and acquisition and marketing assets which are used to facilitate the purchase and sale of crude oil, natural gas, natural gas liquids, and refined products.


Summary:


The Sr Pipeline Integrity Engineer reports to the Sr. Manager of Liquid Pipeline Integrity (East). This position involves a diverse involvement in various aspects of the company’s business related to pipeline integrity, defect evaluations, and operations. This position requires periodic travel to field locations, trainings, and company meetings.  This position will also provide Subject Matter Expertise for Integrity Engineering Services.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
 

  • Support the Company’s Integrity Management Plan (IMP) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) in areas such as risk assessment, data integration, anomaly evaluation, remediation programs, integrity program evaluation and identification of preventive and mitigative measures.
  • Utilize engineering tools such as DRAS software, GIS database interactive maps, and pipeline integrity data sheets to identify potential risks and track program progress on specific lines
  • Initiate and lead interaction with appropriate subject matter experts and other stakeholders such as third party resources and vendors to analyze pressure cycling, perform materials testing, and communicate requirements for in-field evaluation
  • Conduct annual risk review meetings with stakeholders (management, engineering, etc., operations) and provide feedback to Integrity Services for risk modeling.
  • Review risk model(s) for specific assets including coordination of data collection, understanding the risk algorithms, reviewing and confirming results, and utilizing the risk output.
  • Provides technical support to the Integrity Repair group, Specialists, Project Managers, and Operations with pipeline assessments, evaluation, and repair methods
  • Assists in the management of Company pipeline SOPs covering defect evaluations, pipe repairs, pressure reductions, coupling reinforcements, outside force evaluation, and surveillance
  • Assists in inspections by PHMSA and other regulatory bodies by acting as an SME on pipeline inspections, data, records, and program execution.
  • Assists in developing improvements to the company’s Integrity Management Plan including the written plan, procedures, best practices, and processes
  • Collect and provide Pipeline Integrity related data for performance metrics, required annual reporting, and to help monitor key performance indicators for assigned assets
  • Provide input to support the construction of new pipelines and/or perform due diligence to support Pipeline Integrity efforts to incorporate newly operated assets into the IMP



Minimum Requirements:
 

Education and/or Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements for this position are listed below:

  • Graduate engineer with BS in Engineering discipline.  Civil, Mechanical, Chemical or Petroleum engineering preferred.
  • 6 -10 years of related experience
  • Experience in pipeline operations, pipeline design, pipeline repair and pipeline integrity issues such as corrosion control, pipeline assessment and fitness for service evaluation, risk management, DOT Code requirements and compliance.
 
Preferred Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • The position requires a candidate with excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • A highly developed ability with PC’s and office computer software is required. 
  • Must be a self-starter and self-motivator, ability to perform effectively with minimal supervision.
Working Conditions:
 

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

  • Normal office working conditions with approximately 50% of the time in the field.
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time due to prolonged periods of sitting or standing.
  • Overnight travel will be required.
  • Position is based in industrial settings which may include hazardous materials and chemicals, as well as extreme temperature conditions and loud machinery, and require appropriate personal protective equipment.
