Sr Health and Safety Specialist/Process Safety Management
Summary:
This position will report to the Local Area Director and will be in Watford City, North Dakota. Will support company goals and objectives related to all elements of PSM, emergency response, Industrial Hygiene, regulatory compliance, safety auditing, contractor safety, and training for crude, refined products, and gas assets. Work to develop consistency across the company in the development and application of company PSM procedures and policies. Work individually and as part of the safety team to support and provide customer service to Field Safety and Operations personnel. Assist with the management of company safety programs and with the development of company standard operating procedures (SOP) and training programs. Assist with creation and adherence to all PSM regulations and policies. Assist with or lead incident investigations as needed. Review incident and near miss reports within his/her area of responsibility for accuracy, consistency, and effective corrective actions.
Travel requirements may range from 35% to 55% depending on business needs. May be assigned specific areas of responsibility but will work in all areas of safety as required by the needs of the department. Performs other duties as required / assigned to support departmental goals.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Field Support:
- Assist Operations Safety Representatives as needed.
- Perform audits as requested and support corporate Safety Audit program.
- Perform training as required.
- Conduct / assist with accident and incident investigations as needed.
- Conduct research and provide technical information as to the requirements, applicability, and interpretations of Federal, State and Local regulations.
- Work on committees to develop and maintain company PSM SOP in compliance with applicable Federal, State and Local regulations.
- Research industry standards and best practices and make recommendations as needed.
- Collaborate with Managers and Field Safety Specialists and Representatives to build consistency in the understanding and application of company procedures and regulatory requirements.
- Assist PSM Manager and staff of Local Operations Teams in fulfillment of requirements to PSM regulations and policy.
- Provide oversight to the workflow processes for revision and certification to PSM compliance issues at local gas plants. Area of responsibility will cover Wild Basin and Bear Den operations and locations.
- Assist with the MOC process by identifying change, initiating eMOC process, and ensuring proper hazard review/evaluations and follow-ups of action items to completion.
- Aid with ongoing evaluation of project status, frequency-based deliverables, and initiation of new projects based on customer needs, PHA recommendations, and audit results.

Education and/or Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job duty satisfactorily. The requirements for this position are listed below:
- 6+ years Oil / Gas or Petrochemical safety experience in progressive positions or equivalent operational experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in industrial safety or related field, or progressive experience to demonstrate knowledge and leadership abilities.
- Demonstrated client-driven solution provider.
- Computer skills: office applications and risk management applications.
- Mentor other Safety personnel.
- Effective communications skills and the ability to communicate with multiple levels of the company.
- Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to learn company computer-based programs.
- Experience in the development of company Safety and compliance procedures and documents.
- Organizational skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- CSP, ASP or other certification a plus.
Working Conditions:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
Usually, normal office working conditions.
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time due to prolonged periods of sitting or standing.
- Occasional overnight travel may be required.
- Occasional visits to industrial/manufacturing settings, which may include exposure to various materials and chemicals, as well as extreme temperature conditions and loud machinery, and require appropriate personal protective equipment.
