Summary:

Responsible for instrumentation and electrical maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair. Installation of new I&E devices as necessary. This position has advance knowledge of high and low voltage systems, SCADA, valve and pump controls, cathodic protection and rectifiers operation, maintenance and calibration. This description should not be construed to contain every function/responsibility that may be required to be performed by an incumbent in this position. Incumbents are required to perform other related functions as assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

To safely provide maintenance and construction support for all instrument and electrical systems associated with the pipelines, terminals, refineries or pump stations. This may include high voltage, low voltage or telecommunication system including satellites, or landlines and to provide accurate and timely documentation. Perform all the following functions safely while complying with safety rules, procedures and policies

  • Independently install and maintain all electrical systems. This includes operations involving main line pumping units, diagnostics, repair and upgrades including new construction, light vehicle maintenance, hot work and confine space work and housekeeping duties. Install, and maintain VSAT, RTU, PLC devices and truck loading, additive injection, and pipeline proving and control systems. Read and assess data plot plans and other testing information to determine system performance. Create as built drawings. Assist Engineer or Technical Services with design support.

  • Repair, replace and calibrate transmitters and switches.

  • Assist in emergency response activities as required.

  • Maintain and complete accurate filing and updating of all operational records including, but not limited to: tickets, stream sheets, strip charts, batch comparison forms, inventory accounting, meter calibrations, operations manuals, safety manuals, emergency response manuals, trouble reports and policies and procedures. May include special safety audits, manual edits, and procedure writing.

  • Maintain communications via both voice and electronic transmissions with management and field locations, Customers, right of way holders, community groups, agencies and vendors.

  • Perform preventative maintenance as required.

  • Independently manage projects assignments.

  • Perform environmental/safety compliance.

Required Education:

  • High School graduate or GED; an Associate or advanced educational degree from a regionally accredited college or university is preferred.

  • Valid commercial optional Driver’s License with good driving record. Preferred: Journeyman’s license or equivalent, 40 hour trained HAZWOPER. 

  • Preferred: measurement technician, NACE certified. Meter school, API 653 inspector school, and fire fighting school. 

  • Must be able to demonstrate competence in intermediate math.

  • Must be able to read and interpret technical materials i.e. blueprints, manuals, alignment sheets, etc.

  • Must be able to effectively communicate in English both orally and in writing.

  • Must be organized, and punctual.

  • Must be able to use various power and hand tools.

  • Must be willing to accommodate overnight travel (occasionally multiple days).

Minimum Requirements: 

  • At least three years direct experience in electrical & instrumentation field or have other industry related experiences that show maturity and safe work habits in an industrial environment or a graduate of Tech school or higher. 

  • Must be familiar with National Electrical code guidelines. 

  • Office skills and computer skills helpful, prior industry related experience. Familiar with safe hot work practices, confine space regulations, DOT pipeline safety devices, and safe electrical practices.

 

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Climbing at least 60 feet on stairs at least a few times per week.

  • Climbing at least 7 to 11 feet on ladders or scaffolding at least a few times per month.

  • Lifting objects weighing up to 50 lbs. at least a few times a week, with the expectations that an employee can lift up to 100 lbs. with assistance, when needed.

  • Carrying objects weighing up to 25 lbs. for up to 50 feet on a weekly basis.

  • Walking 100 yards or more over 10 times throughout the day, with the expectations that employees could walk regularly up to 300 yards at a time for a total of 2 miles or more during a shift.

  • Walking on steep inclines for up to 15 minutes at a time.

  • Working in a crouching position several times per day for up to an hour at a time.

  • Bending and stooping several times per day for up to 30 minutes at a time.

  • Bending and twisting for up to 30 minutes at a time, including manually digging with shovels.

  • Standing in one place for up to an hour at a time.

  • Sitting for up to two hours at a time.

  • Ability to wear all appropriate personal protection equipment, such as safety shoes, safety glasses, hard hat, flame-resistant clothing, hearing protection, respirator/breathing apparatus, and/or fall protection, as required by the job activities.

  • Ability to use or operate the hand tools, power tools, precision tools, measurement devices and other tools or equipment required by the job activities.
