Sr Paralegal
Essential Functions
• Assist and monitor outside counsel performance and cost on litigation matters
• Assist with compiling reserve information and prepare status updates to all current litigation matters and
pending disputes
• Assist with the contract management and regulatory functions of the midstream business
• Manage legal matter management system including updating litigation/disputes and transactional matters,
tracking cost and budget information, and entering new matters
• Acknowledge and track service of process for all entities and ensure proper assignment internally and to
outside law firms
• Prepare responses and objections to subpoenas and collect, review, potentially redact, and produce documents
including phone and in person interviews
• Liaise with IT regarding the preservation and collection of information to be held for anticipated litigation
• Manage custodian interviews for the collection of electronic and hard copy documents for responses to
subpoenas
• Manage discovery/document requests by outside counsel and collect and provide documents
• Review internal documents before sending to outside counsel
• Manage with IT eDiscovery software/program for the collection, culling, and production of documents
• Manage hold process for litigation including the initiating and releasing holds after conclusion of matters
• Proof read and edit documents
• Assist attorneys in legal department
• Manage document vendor selection, performance, and cost on legal matters
• Manage document review for smaller teams of document reviewers
• Manage and prepare litigation report to auditors
• Prepare indemnification demands to the contractor and insurance company
• Prepare litigation hold memorandums
• Prepare the engagement letters for outside counsel
• Perform initial investigations, interviews, and due diligence etc. with the project teams
• Attend meetings, depositions, mediations, or hearings as needed
• Perform contractor pre-qualifications by requesting financials, project resumes, and any other documents
needed for quality control
• Coordinate with various departments (credit, safety, engineering, etc.) regarding contractor qualifications
Essential Requirements
• 8 + years of paralegal experience in a law firm or a publicly traded company
• Previous experience in a law firm or company providing engineering, regulatory permitting, and/or
construction services preferred
• Paralegal Certification required; degree preferred
Special Characteristics/Job Requirements
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook, Adobe
Acrobat, etc., and with various legal related sites
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Excellent organizational, project, and time management skills
• Flexibility to work overtime as required
• An outgoing personality, good communications skills, sense of humor, and desire to work in a fast paced team
oriented environment.
Working Conditions:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
- Usually, normal office working conditions.
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time due to prolonged periods of sitting or standing.
- Occasional overnight travel may be required.
- Occasional visits to industrial/manufacturing settings, which may include exposure to various materials and chemicals, as well as extreme temperature conditions and loud machinery, and require appropriate personal protective equipment.
