Sr Specialist - Safety
Position is embedded in the division and will provide technical health and safety guidance and leadership on a variety of personal safety topics and issues in a safety first culture. The successful candidate must have excellent communication and engagement skills as well as the ability to write professional reports and prepare presentations for dissemination to the division as well as corporate audiences. Total travel should be approximately 20 to 30%.
Responsibilities:
- Serves as health and safety technical professional for assigned area in support of daily operations and maintenance activities
- Interpret state and federal regulations and directives
- Works with the assigned area and division to implement company safety and health policies and procedures and support continual improvement
- Leads and supports various monthly safety meetings at the assigned area and maintains records
- Develops, coordinates, and conducts required safety and health training in accordance with 29 CFR 1910 and other related regulations
- Serves in the capacity as lead investigator, facilitator or subject matter expert in incident investigations; experience with root cause investigation methodologies is required; drafting corrective actions
- Provides support during asset health & safety and process safety management (PSM) audits
- Conduct safety compliance field audits and communicate findings to area management
- Coordinates industrial hygiene efforts for asset, including exposure monitoring and assessments
- Attend customer safety functions and acting as the company safety representative for a multi-area basis
- Authors various reports and presentations for assigned area, division, and corporate audiences
- Interacts with local communities to ensure positive and pro-active relations are maintained
- Serves as a local policy and procedure subject matter expert as assigned
- Observe and mentor company operations personnel in safe work planning and practices
- Assess company compliance with customer safety requirements and creating remedial plans to address deficiencies
- Assist operational staff with the implementation of recommended safety measures
Minimum Qualifications/Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent and 8+ years of relevant work experience. Bachelor of Science degree or advanced degree in industrial safety and health or similar technical degree preferred.
- Strong understanding of safety work practices and operational processes.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills across various teams and positions.
- Ability to work outdoors in all conditions and office environment.
- Ability to assume & perform duties and handle multiple tasks under potentially stressful and/or hazardous conditions
- Work well with others and also be able to perform work independently.
- Demonstrate sound judgment.
- Have knowledge of safety rules and practices.
- Strong computer skills with excellent understanding of the MS Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook); ability to function with internal database systems.
- Have a history of being dependable & reliable.
- Good customer relations skills, and a record of very positive work performance.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Possess reliable means of contact for call-out purposes
- Position will require working days, nights, holidays in all weather conditions
- Valid Driver's license with acceptable driving record
- Ability to work well in a dynamic, fast-paced, demanding environment
- Excellent self-starter who can work with minimal direction
- Excellent time management skills with the ability to prioritize work to meet sometimes short deadlines.
