Position Summary

The Natural Gas Trader is responsible for managing Energy Transfer’s physical and financial natural gas portfolio across the Texas region. This role focuses on optimizing value around ET’s extensive pipeline and storage footprint, executing disciplined trading strategies, and supporting the company’s commercial growth objectives. The Trader collaborates closely with scheduling, analytics, and leadership to ensure safe, reliable, and profitable utilization of ET assets while maintaining strong relationships with market participants.

Key Responsibilities

Commercial Trading & Asset Optimization

  • Optimize ET’s natural gas pipeline and storage assets through effective physical trading and scheduling alignment.
  • Execute financial hedges and futures positions to manage exposure and support portfolio strategy.
  • Identify and capture value through market structure, transportation optionality, and regional supply/demand dynamics.
  • Participate in daily commercial meetings, providing clear market insights and position updates.

Deal Structuring & Negotiation

  • Negotiate spot and term natural gas purchase and sales agreements with producers, marketers, utilities, and industrial customers.
  • Structure transactions that align with ET’s asset capabilities, risk parameters, and commercial objectives.
  • Ensure all commercial activity adheres to internal controls, credit requirements, and compliance standards.

Market & Asset Intelligence

  • Monitor regional and national market trends, pricing hubs, weather patterns, and regulatory developments to inform trading decisions.
  • Work closely with scheduling and analytics teams to understand pipeline constraints, flow capabilities, storage positions, and operational limitations.
  • Maintain a clear and consistent point of view on market fundamentals impacting ET profitability.

Relationship Management & Business Development

  • Build and maintain strong commercial relationships with counterparties and industry participants.
  • Originate new opportunities that enhance ET’s asset value and expand the commercial footprint.
  • Represent ET professionally in market discussions, conferences, and industry engagements.

Operational Excellence & Compliance

  • Uphold ET’s standards for safety, integrity, and operational excellence in all commercial activities.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and contribute to enhancements in trading processes, analytics, and commercial systems.
  • Perform additional responsibilities or special projects as assigned.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Business, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 2 - 5 years of natural gas trading, marketing, or commercial experience within the energy sector.

     

    Strong understanding of:

  • Natural gas fundamentals and regional supply/demand drivers
  • Pipeline and storage infrastructure
  • Physical and financial trading instruments
  • Price‑risk management and derivatives
  • Transportation logistics and scheduling concepts

Preferred

  • Demonstrated ability to develop and execute commercial strategies that create measurable value.
  • Experience with commercial modeling (Excel), discounted cash flow analysis, and statistical evaluation.
  • Established network of industry contacts across producers, marketers, utilities, and counterparties.
  • Strong analytical, negotiation, and communication skills with the ability to operate in fast‑moving markets.
