Testing Technician

Position Summary
Under limited supervision, the Testing Technician - A performs advanced testing, load testing, troubleshooting, repair, fabrication, assembly, commissioning, and maintenance activities on natural gas compressor packages, engines, control panels, and related equipment. This role is responsible for ensuring equipment meets quality, safety, and performance standards prior to deployment. The Testing Technician – A serves as a technical resource to less experienced technicians and supports engineering, manufacturing, and quality initiatives through equipment evaluation, diagnostics, and process improvement efforts.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The following duties are representative of the position and may include, but are not limited to:
Review engineering drawings, blueprints, schematics, work orders, and project instructions to determine testing requirements, procedures, and operational objectives.
Set up, program, configure, operate, and test compressor packages, engines, electrical systems, instrumentation, and control panels.
Perform operational checks and make necessary adjustments to ensure equipment functionality, efficiency, and compliance with specifications.
Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair equipment failures, identify root causes and implementing corrective actions.
Conduct complete equipment rebuilds utilizing established rebuild procedures and quality standards.
Operate and maintain various shop equipment, drill presses, grinders, welding equipment, and other fabrication tools.
Fabricate, modify, and install components as required to support testing, repairs, and equipment improvements.
Monitor and record operating parameters including pressure, temperature, vibration, amperage, voltage, and electrical outputs to evaluate equipment performance.
Perform leak tests on assembled compressor packages and panels using shop air and or high pressure nitrogen.
Perform quality inspections of assemblies, components, and completed packages, documenting and reporting discrepancies or non-conforming conditions.
Assist engineering teams with prototype testing, equipment validation, product development, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Conduct safety, quality assurance, and compliance inspections in accordance with company policies and industry standards.
Support manufacturing and operational requirements by assisting in multiple departments and covering critical functions during periods of increased workload.
Mentor and provide technical guidance to lower-level technicians, assisting with training and development.
Maintain accurate service, inspection, testing, and repair documentation.
Observe and follow all company safety policies, procedures, and environmental regulations.
Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.
Education and Experience
High School Diploma or GED required.
Minimum of six (6) years of related mechanical, electrical, fabrication, testing, or industrial equipment experience required.
Technical, vocational, or trade school certification preferred.
Experience working with natural gas compression equipment, industrial engines, rotating equipment, electrical controls, or similar industrial machinery preferred.
Combination of education, certifications, and relevant work experience may be considered.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Advanced understanding of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
Ability to read, interpret, and apply engineering drawings, schematics, blueprints, technical manuals, and operational procedures.
Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills with the ability to identify root causes and recommend corrective actions.
Knowledge of manufacturing processes, quality assurance principles, and inspection methodologies.
Working knowledge of industrial safety practices, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), hazard recognition, and safe equipment operation.
Proficiency operating hand tools, power tools, precision measuring instruments, and fabrication equipment.
Ability to safely operate shop machinery including grinders, drill presses, and welding equipment.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to effectively prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
Demonstrated leadership and mentoring abilities.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
Ability to apply practical problem-solving techniques and exercise sound judgment in resolving equipment and operational issues.
Physical Requirements
Frequently lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 pounds.
Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, and climb for extended periods.
Ability to work in manufacturing, shop, and outdoor environments with exposure to noise, vibration, dust, temperature extremes, and moving mechanical equipment.
Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
