Job Description

The Tank Integrity Team is seeking a Drexel University Engineering CoOp to support regional tank integrity program for above ground petroleum storage tanks at several products terminals. This position provides hands-on experience working within an operational oil and gas environment and offers direct exposure to the design, construction and maintenance of above ground atmospheric storage tanks.

The Tank Integrity CoOp will work under the direct supervision of an experienced Tank Integrity Manager, and closely with terminal operations, business development managers and environmental professionals, to support tank maintenance activities in Sunoco Midstream’s East Region.

Primary Responsibilities

·         Reading and interpreting tank inspection reports, evaluating the recommended repairs, and developing scopes of work to complete the repairs.

  • Closely manage the cleanings, inspections, and repairs for multiple tank projects simultaneously 
  • Coordinate with terminal managers to develop project scopes, cost estimates, write Capital Requests, conduct pre bid meetings, preconstruction meetings, and closely manage project execution and project spending within budget. 
  • Ensure that all work is performed to company and industry standards and procedures.
  • Liaise with Business Development on tank outages and development of plans to reduce commercial impacts of same

·         Work closely with Health Environmental and Safety on federal, state, and local environmental compliance requirements

·         Maintaining tank inspection compliance calendars and updating tank integrity database

·         Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives supporting Tank Integrity Maintenance Program

Learning Objectives / Skills Gained

·         Upon completion of the co-op, students will gain hands-on exposure to:

o   American Petroleum Institute (API) Construction and Inspection Standards and Recommended Practices for large diameter above ground storage tanks

o   Steel Tank Institute (STI) Inspection Standards for small diameter along with certification requirements for the Inspection Standard

o   Professional collaboration within an experienced Tank Integrity Team supporting tank maintenance activities

o   Regulatory and corporate environmental compliance requirements for storage tanks

o   Project Management and a project life cycle

o   Midstream Oil and Gas Operations and a corporate environment

This co-op experience directly supports career development in the oil and gas industry, providing practical skills applicable to the operational and maintenance activities for above ground storage tanks.

Required Qualifications

·         Enrollment in Drexel University’s CoOp Program

·         Major in Mechanical/Civil Engineering, or related field

·         Strong attention to detail, with the ability to independently proof work for accuracy

  • Ability to manage time, travel arrangements, expense reports and scheduling to meet appropriate deadlines

·         Effective written and verbal communication skills

·         Interest in industrial operations

Preferred Qualifications

·         Interest in Oil and Gas Industry

·         Excellent PC skills, with proficiency in Microsoft products, Teams and Webex

·         Ability to work successfully in stressful situations, and manage multiple tasks

·         Ability to climb 50 ft staircases in hot and cold weather conditions and enter confined spaces.
