Manages employees who perform in-depth and complex planning, scheduling, and coordination of product movements of bulk liquids via pipeline, truck, rail, and barge/vessel to ensure continuity of supply and inventory optimization.  Works closely with traders in direct support of trading and sales strategy.  Is responsible for complex scheduling functions on all modes of transport and can routinely perform all scheduling functions as a result of employee vacancy / vacations. Plans, prioritizes, monitors, and appraises job results of self and others.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Manages refined product and renewable product Schedulers, while assisting in resolving product supply issues as a result of planned or unplanned events.
  • Develop and maintain operability and cost drivers of the distribution system to maximize performance and meet supply requirements on a consistent basis.  Must react to changes quickly and precisely to prevent distribution problems.
  • Oversees inventory management in the process of scheduling, including daily, monthly, and end of year inventory targets and reporting for the team.
  • Interfaces with industry counterparts and 3rd party carriers to negotiate and coordinate product movements.
  • Monitors, analyzes, and calculates logistics expense accruals/results and other key operational and financial metrics.
  • Collaborates with Trading team and/or Supply team on product supply needs to develop market strategies and provides operational optionality and alternatives to facilitate favorable financial results
  • Optimizes the product supply chain to reduce logistics costs.
  • Ensures that all scheduling processes take place in a correct and timely manner.
  • Responsible for coaching and developing team to deliver results, and promoting employee development with oversight and training.
  • Identifies and resolves business unit issues and roadblocks for the team.

Required Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering, logistics or related field or equivalent work experience
  • 8 years’ experience in logistics or refinery scheduling, refinery process engineering or equivalent operational role
  • Demonstrated ability to work and negotiate in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and be on call 24/7
  • Ability to plan and prioritize own work and others’ work to achieve optimum results
  • Excellent interpersonal/communication skills (both written and verbal), computer skills, and analytical skills
  • Thrives in cross-functional team environment
  • Ability to build relationships with colleagues at all levels
  • Strong troubleshooting, problem solving, and decision-making skills
  • Pipeline/Barge/Truck scheduling experience

 

Desired/Preferred Skills:

  • Exposure to one or more energy markets (crude oil and/or petroleum products)
  • Understanding of the interaction and significance of the various aspects/elements of the refined products trading/marketing supply chain is desirable.
  • Ability to apply a well-developed understanding of business strategies and logistics operations to achieve the business and team objectives.
  • Understanding of RightAngle and/or Transport4 systems
